NOTICE

SELECTION TO THE PANEL OF THE MEDIATION CENTER

MTI E.A Mediation centre is now operational; The Centre provides case administrative services and acts as an intermediary between the parties and the mediator. Mediation under Centre Rules and Procedures is voluntary: The parties decide whether or not to mediate, the selection of the Mediator, and whether or not to settle and on what terms.

For those mediators who are willing to join our roster, The procedures have slightly changed. You will fill in the mediator application for inclusion form and then you will file with the centre an affirmative reply to request to join roster. You will fill in and sign  a mediator qualification statement in a format provided by the centre and finally you will sign the mediator roster agreement before your name is entered into the centre roster. We want to attract the finest in the market reasons being that we are aiming at both local and international customers. Those appointed to our roster will be subjected to a strict code of conduct. This roster is open to mediators in Kenya, Uganda, Rwanda Tanzania other countries keen on practicing both in person and online mediation.

The process of constituting a roster will take us one month after which we will call for a meeting with all mediators in our roaster both physical and online for planning purposes. MEDIATION ADVOCACY TRAINING FOR LAWYERS

Mediation Training Institute East Africa (MTI) has collaborated with Edwards Mediation Academy and the law society of Kenya Nairobi branch to offer Professional Mediation Advocacy Training.

The EMA Mediation Advocacy course is for advocates who would like to expand their range of professional services to include successfully representing their clients in mediation.  Mediation advocacy differs from traditional litigation advocacy and the advocate of today needs to master the skills to help their clients win at mediation. We build on your education, experience as a litigation advocate, and help you expand your skills in a new direction… one that will add value for your clients and your legal practice.

Learners can take the online portion of the courses in the convenience of their home or office, over a period of two months.  MTI instructors will lead subsequent two-hour face-to-face discussion and mediation coaching sessions after specific modules on Saturday or Sunday afternoons, based on individual student schedules and needs.

To register, contact our secretariat.

MEDIATION LIBRARY

The mediation library is open for use to all certified professional mediators in our roaster. It is free. We do not lend out books.  Members can only read and return. This will continue for a while until we get a full time librarian to manage the borrowing. We encourage all the mediators to make use of the library to expand their knowledge in mediation. The Library is now located at Jeevan Bharat house 5th floor, opposite electricity house , Harambee avenue Nairobi

The Benefits of IMI Certification

All professional mediators are encouraged to apply and get IMI Certification. Contact our secretariat , we are an IMI Qualifying program.

Ten Good Reasons to be listed as IMI Certified

IMI Certified Mediators and Mediation Advocates are able to be included in IMI’s ‘Find a Mediator’ search engine. This search engine, like all of the work of IMI, is entirely donation-funded, and the annual listing contributions paid by IMI Certified Mediators and Mediation Advocates is essential to the ongoing operations of IMI. Below are ten good reasons to have your IMI Certified profile listed with IMI.

  1. You benefit from IMI’s global brand

IMI is the international standard-setting body for mediation, and being listed as ‘IMI Certified’ means that you are part of an international group of elite mediators.  IMI is uniquely able to endorse professional competency through certification, because IMI is not a provider of mediation services.  IMI Certified professionals can use their direct profile links and special IMI logos when marketing themselves, to indicate the high quality of their practice when compared to peers.

  1. You have access to users and potential work

The ‘find a mediator’ page and mediator profiles are the most-visited parts of the IMI website.  Users visit to find a professional mediator, and being listed in the IMI search engine means you have the opportunity for new work—vital in a competitive industry.  Several international corporate users have indicated that they only consider mediators listed with IMI.

  1. You gain credibility in your practice

Users can verify your experience and competency instantly by scrolling through your profile and your unique feedback digest.

  1. You boost your web search results

IMI appears high in web search results, including for such general queries as ‘find a mediator’.  Where your name and “mediator” are searched, IMI profiles appear even before professional services such as LinkedIn—IMI profiles have great visibility in search results.

  1. You demonstrably meet user demand

Over 90% of users wish mediators to be professionally certified and held accountable to transparent standards of conduct set and applied by a professional mediation body.  This is especially important in the era of the Singapore Convention. Only IMI Certified professionals qualify to have their profiles included in the IMI search engine, a key tool for users to find and verify mediator credentials, competency and suitability for a particular situation.

  1. You are distinguished from your peers

Not everyone can become IMI Certified—it is a quality mark that distinguishes you nationally and internationally.  IMI Certification is the closest designation there is to a ‘gold standard’ for mediation.

  1. You qualify for international provider panels

Mediators find it easier to be accepted on the panels of courts and private dispute resolution bodies if they are IMI Certified, as their experience and skills can be instantly verified. For example, the Singapore International Mediation Centre and Florence International Mediation Chambers require all their mediators to be IMI Certified.

  1. You qualify for other credentialing opportunities

IMI Certified Mediators are automatically eligible for certification by the Singapore International Mediation Institute (and vice versa!).

  1. You help develop the future of mediation

Participate in and influence the many IMI taskforces and initiatives aimed at improving mediation and access to justice worldwide.  You may be interested to become a Mentor to vetted Young Mediators Initiative members under the auspices of the Worldwide Mediation Mentorship Program.  Your contribution goes directly to funding IMI’s important work worldwide.

IMI is the only body that lists mediators from all continents across the globe in a transparent way, to facilitate parties selecting the most suitable mediator in each case.

  1. You are marketed in conjunction with IMI

IMI runs regular advertising campaigns on search engines, advertising the ‘find a mediator’ page which displays IMI Certified Mediators and Advocates with up-to-date listing contributions.  Where current members are celebrating a professional success such as winning an award or gaining a fellowship, IMI markets that specific individual to personnel in their area—for example, corporate decision-makers in that mediator’s countries of operation.

IMI professional dues are affordable—at just €125 per annum, your contribution represents great value for you and your mediation practice

MTI E.A is a qualifying assessment program for IMI , Our 50 hour professional mediation training program is accredited by IMI , Those who complete our program are certified as qualified mediators by IMI,
